Dr. Levinson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland Medical School with Honors, and trained in corneal surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Levinson has lectured extensively, and has been invited several times to address his colleagues at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology conference and at the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Levinson also frequently lectures other eye doctors on the treatment of corneal pathology, and his office is approved by the Maryland Optometric Association as a site for clinical observation for continuing education for Optometrists.
He has conducted research on corneal surgery and external eye conditions, written numerous journal articles, and chapters in leading ophthalmology textbooks including Duane’s Ophthalmology and the Wills Eye Institute 5 minute consult. Dr. Levinson is currently working on a textbook about the use of the Anterior Segment module of the Ocular Coherence Tomographer (OCT) in the use of diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions. Dr. Levinson was involved in the FDA approved trials on collagen cross linking, novel uses for cyclosporine (Restasis) and early research on endothelial transplantation.
Dr. Levinson’s main clinical interests are dry eye, keratoconus, and problems of the corneal epithelium, but he enjoys treating all challenging eye problems of the front part of the eye.
Dr. Levinson was featured in an article in Baltimore Magazine’s Top Docs issue for 2011 about a woman who regained her vision after treatment by Dr. Levinson, and he was interviewed by WBAL on novel treatments for dry eye. Dr. Levinson has been also featured on TV’s The Critical Hour, and has been interviewed multiple times by Bottom Line Health to discuss ocular health.
Dr. Levinson is an active member in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Levinson is also an expert in the fitting of contact lenses for people with irregular corneas, such as keratoconus and thinning of the cornea after LASIK surgery. Dr. Levinson is the only eye surgeon in the Baltimore area who is certified in the fitting of the SynergEyes lens for irregular corneas. Dr. Levinson resides in Mt. Washington with his wife and two children.
