Dr. Alfred Kronthal is a Board Certified ophthalmologist. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Kronthal completed post-graduate training at Harvard Medical School and his residency in Ophthalmology at Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.
Dr. Kronthal founded our practice in Cross Keys over 40 years ago, and continues to see patients 4 days a week.
Dr. Kronthal was one of the first eye surgeons in the 1980’s to perform phacoemulsification of cataracts. This technique is now the gold standard for cataract surgery, and Dr. Kronthal trained hundreds of young doctors in this technique. Dr. Kronthal was also one of the first doctors to perform LASIK surgery, and he has performed thousands of cataract and LASIK surgeries over his career.
Dr. Kronthal has been a loyal partner to the medical and optometric community for over four decades. Dr. Kronthal also continues to be committed to education, serving as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
